Household Tips for
carbon-balanced-baby care

If you are, as we suspect, a mother or parent who sometimes feels guilty about the ecological impact your child has, relax. Eco living is easy. Carbon-balanced-baby.org will provide you with smart, practical, convenient household tips to assist your daily “balancing act.” We also suspect that you know most of the basics for responsible home care; properly separating and disposing of recyclables, appropriate elimination of household chemicals, etc. Our goal is to provide household tips that are specific towards baby and child care. We want to know if you have any great tips as well so please tell us your ideas at the bottom of each page!

Eco Friendly Household Tips for Parents

What can you do around the house to reduce your baby's carbon footprint?
  1. Responsible Diaper Use: Your baby’s lifetime diaper use, whether you use disposables, eco friendly diapers or reusable nappies, is his most considerable influence on the greenhouse effect until they reach their teen years. Please click here to see how you can be more ecologically responsible in your diapering methods.

  2. Pay attention to your water use: Having a baby can increase your water usage by up to 100 gallons per day! You have more clothes to wash, more linens, more dishes, etc. Also, the tedious washing of bottle nipples, rubber stoppers for non-spill cups and other baby related items means you can spend more time at the sink with the tap running. Click here for household tips to reduce your water consumption!

  3. Power Use for appliances, lights, heat, air conditioning, television, etc. all put strains on the ecosystem. Most power generation facilities consume valuable natural resources, emit greenhouse gases and then discard hazardous waste products into the environment. We need this power to properly care for ourselves and our families, but reduction and responsible use of this resource is essential for our climate’s health and our children’s future. Click here to see easy power saving tips!

  4. Household Cleaning Tips: Eco friendly cleaning products are easy to make right at home with simple and inexpensive ingredients! You can also purchase great products which are easy on the environment and babies. Toxic, chemical cleaning agents not only damage our planet's water quality they also pose a serious  threat to your baby inside the home. These can be easily replaced with eco friendly products which are non-toxic, inexpensive to make or buy and are environmentally safe. Click here to see eco friendly cleaning products made at home with simple, inexpensive ingredients!

  5. Reduce the amount of garbage you throw away! Taking care of a baby’s needs also means their parents have more garbage (and recycling, of course) going to the curb. Not just diapers, as we have discussed, but all of the other things that you didn’t need/have before your lovely child arrived. Click here for tips on reducing your househould's garbage output!

  6. Eco Friendly Activities:  Entertain and educate your child with activities that don't require batteries, an electircal outlet or driving too far. Go for a walk, play at your local park or anywhere outdoors! Babies and kids love it, and you will too! Click here to see a great site detailing the benefits of bonding your child with nature!
