Eco Friendly House Cleaning Tips and Recipes

using simple and safe ingredients for a cleaner house and planet

As you safely use and remove the toxic potions you currently use to clean your baby's environment, replace them with simple, cheap items found in any grocery store. These house cleaning tips and recipes really work and lighten the impact on both your local environment and the planet!

Basic Ingredients for Eco Friendly Cleaning

  • Baking soda
  • white vinegar
  • lemon juice
  • soap (dish and/or hand)
  • salt
Thats it! Add others that you feel are ecologically safe as you experiment, follow some of the recipes and advice listed below and pretty soon your child will be crawling about a cleaner, safer and environmentally balanced house!

Cleaning Tips and Recipes

  • A great glass cleaner is a mixture of half water and half white viengar.
  • Clean up mold and mildew in the bathroom with a mixture of salt and lemon juice or white vinegar.

  • For a good carpet deodorizer, shake cornstarch and baking soda on your rug before vacuuming.

  • A good carpet cleaning tip is using a mixture of water, lemon juice and salt on a stain. Rub vigorously with a rag dipped in the mixture and follow with a quick vacuum.

  • Make a paste of baking soda, salt and hot water for a great oven cleaner.

  • Instead of using a highly toxic drain cleaner, pour a quarter cup of baking soda into the clogged drain and follow that with a half cup of vinegar. Close the drain and wait for the fizzing bubbles to stop. Flush with a pot of boiling water.

The versatility of Baking Soda!

Great household uses for a safe, inexpensive product:

  • Baking soda and a damp rag can remove crayon, pencil and other marks from your walls.

  • Remove the scuffmarks your child (or husband) leaves on the linoleum or tile floor with a damp sponge dipped in baking soda.

  • Get more uses from sponges or your favorite dish scrub brush by soaking them overnight in baking soda and water.

  • Shake a bit of baking soda over your carpets, wait for ten minutes, then vacuum for an eco friendly carpet deodorizer.

The Magic of White Vinegar

A fantastic eco option for tough cleaning needs

First, it is important to use good quality white vinegar. The cheaper white vinegars are made with a petroleum byproduct, so we obviously want to avoid those. Check the ingredients (only grains and water,) spend a few extra pennies and get the good stuff for great, baby-safe cleaning.
  • Pouring white vinegar into your toilet bowl, and allowing to sit for ten minutes before flushing, will remove stains and bacteria.

  • Remove the stickers, labels or glue that your baby put on the refridgerator or windows by wiping with white vinegar.

  • A mom often needs coffee. White vinegar can remove the stains in your mugs and coffee pot.

  • Once a month make several ice cubes out of white vinegar. Put them in your garbage disposal, constantly add a small amount of cold water while you turn on the disposal. The vinegar cubes will deodorize your sink and sharpen the disposal blades.

  • For clogged drains, boil vinegar and pour into the drain.
